Indian workforce is projected to grow to 457.62 million by 2028

India has an edge over the other major economies of the world owing to its demographic dividend. It is a period of economic growth due to the shift in the age structure of the country. Indian workforce is projected to grow from 423.73 million in 2023 to 457.62 million by 2028. A service now report shows that emerging technologies will transform talent across India’s service sector. The tech sector is expected to create 2.73 million new jobs by 2028. Other sectors like manufacturing, education and healthcare are also expected to see substantial growth, driven by economic expansion and technological transformation.

The research report produced by Pearson shows the retail sector is set to lead employment growth requiring an additional 6.96 million workers to fuel its expansion. This will open up opportunities for skilled professionals in Software Applications Development with approximately 109,700 positions, Data Engineering with nearly 48,500 new jobs, System Software Developer with 48,800 new jobs, Web Developer with 48,500 roles, Data Analysts with 47,800, Software Testers with 45,300 new positions. Additionally, roles such as Data Integration Specialists, Database Architects, Data Scientists, and Computer and Information Systems Managers are expected to discover similar new opportunities in their way. These jobs will lead to fueling the growth in energy, government services, and utilities.

Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Service Now Technology and Business Center, Mr. Sumeet Mathur, noted that AI will be the driving force behind the job creation, particularly in positions that require advanced technical skills. Roles such as AI systems Engineers and Implementation consultants will experience a surge in demand. The report also highlights that Gen AI is likely to give benefits such as streamlining tasks and providing a scope to concentrate on strategic initiatives.

“In its first 120 days of implementation of ServiceNow Gen AI, we have achieved $5M+ annualized cost takeout and an additional $4M+ in productivity across ServiceNow and with minimal technical effort,” said Sumeet Mathur. Even the least impacted roles and platform owners will save nearly half an hour each week. Emerging technologies will revolutionize roles across ecosystems enabling smarter and faster work.
