Let us consider a scenario - You are the owner of a small business in India selling handcrafted jewellery or organic spices. Things are going well, but you realize that there’s a much larger world outside. You’ve observed the desirability of Indian handcrafted jewellery and organic spices in the US, or how Ayurveda is the nouveau popular culture in Europe. If only you could sell your products over there…

Good news—you can! And to do it, you don’t need a New York warehouse or a London distributor. Amazon Global Selling (AGS) allows you to sell your products in more than 200 countries, without moving out of your home in India. It will streamline your traditional challenges of international trade- finding buyers, handling logistics and dealing with foreign regulations. Whether you’re a seasoned seller or just starting, this guide will break down everything you need to know to take your business global using Amazon, step by step.

What is Amazon Global Selling?

Amazon Global Selling is an e-commerce exports program that enables Indian exporters to register and sell on 18 Amazon global marketplaces in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, Japan, Singapore, and Australia.

How to start with Amazon Global Selling?

Visit the Amazon Global Selling website, (sell.amazon.in/global-selling) and register your business with Amazon Global Selling with your email id and phone number and a few KYC documents such as ID proof (Aadhaar, passport, or driving license), Business address proof (bank or credit card statement), and credit or debit card ( international transaction enabled), Universal Product Code (UPC) - a unique 12-digit code used to identify a product – and brand registrations.

UPC is a type of Global Trade Identification Number (GTIN) that is used universally to identify a product. Other types of GTIN could be International Standard Book Number (ISBN), European Article Number (EAN), Japanese Article Marketplace (JAN) etc. To provide unique GTINs to exporters and Indian businesses, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, set up GS1(Global Standards 1) India, which is affiliated with GS1 Global.
